South Central Gospel
Overview
South Central Gospel is an intimate peek into the down-home
gospel churches of South Central, Los Angeles, an area plagued with
poverty, racial oppression and gang warfare. Gospel music, or "the
Word of God in song," heals the spirit, calms the soul and provides
solace and release amidst the troubles of life. Rooted in the
spirituals and blues of the American slave south, gospel music
continues today as central part of lives of many African Americans.
South Central Gospel weaves lively, heartfelt performances together
with compelling interviews, including with 60's icon Willie
Chambers, for a moving and entertaining look into the world of
authentic gospel culture.
