Tajikistan

Overview

Maya follows the legendary Silk Road in Central Asia and comes into Tajikistan. The country plunged into a bloody 5-year civil war almost after its independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and today is one of the poorest countries in the world. However it has historical cities such as Hogan, the Alexandria Eschate founded by Alexander the Great, desired by many conquerors because of its strategic position.

In Istaravsan, also named "Kir" by the Parthians and "Kiropoli" by Alexander the Great, the commander was wounded in battle and as the legend says he created Iskandar Cool lake up on the Fan mountains, just by changing the course of a river, sinking thus the facilities of the "bad" Sogdians that resisted to him. Our journey goes on and we reach the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe, which is rightly considered the most beautiful city in Central Asia, so well designed, built and organised by famous Russian and Ukrainian architects since 1926.
