Afghanistan
Overview
Afghanistan, for many Westerners, is associated with the
Taliban's, the illegal opium trade and the US-led war on terror. It
is a country that for the last 30 years is being tormented by wars
and internal conflicts and its society is facing many issues, lots
of them concerning human rights.
On the other hand though, as "Travelling" discovers, this
mountainous country of Central Asia is a place full of wonders:
from its constantly expanding capital, Kabul, which is a beautiful
and charming place to the majestic, steeped in history, Bamiyan
valley and it's amazing cave complexes - once home to the gigantic
Buddha statues which were blown to pieces by the Taliban regime -
Afghanistan is a country that, despite the current problems and
issues that its friendly and good people are facing, can sweep the
visitor along a journey in history and legends of Central Asia.
